COMMERCIAL

GREEN STAR

The Green Star environmental rating system for buildings was launched nationwide in 2003. It is a comprehensive, voluntary environmental rating system that evaluates the environmental design and construction of commercial and multi-residential buildings. It is also an invaluable framework to maximise the sustainability of commercial and multi-residential buildings.

The rating covers nine categories that assess the environmental impact of a project's site, its design, construction and maintenance:

    1. management
    2. indoor environment quality
    3. energy use
    4. transport access
    5. water use
    6. materials use
    7. land use and ecology
    8. emissions, and
    9. innovation.

Although Green Star certification requires a formal process, any project can use its tools as guides to track and improve its environmental attributes without going through the costly accreditation process.

Green House's principal, Duncan Hall, is a GBCA Green Star-accredited professional.
